DIY PRAY Box: Create Your Own Colorful Prayer Box

Sometimes you have a lot on your mind and don’t know where to start when you pray. That’s one reason I wanted to create my own PRAY box—a simple, creative way to write down prayers, release worries, and remember the things I’m thankful for.

I wanted mine to be colorful, personal, and a little extra, so I went with a bright turquoise box, oversized orange letters, faith-inspired stickers, and colorful prayer slips.

The best part? You don’t need a Cricut or a room full of crafting supplies to make your own!

What Is a Prayer Box?

A prayer box is a place to keep written prayers, requests, worries, gratitude notes, and reminders of what you’re trusting God with. You can use one for yourself, your family, your children, or even as a thoughtful handmade gift.

There’s no complicated routine to follow. Write down what’s on your heart, place it inside, and return to your notes whenever you’d like to pray, reflect, or remember how far you’ve come.

Supplies You’ll Need

Here are the tools and materials I used or recommend for creating a personalized prayer box:

  • A small box with a removable lid
  • Large alphabet letters to spell PRAY
  • Colorful cardstock or blank index cards
  • Printable glossy vinyl sticker paper
  • A printer for custom faith-inspired designs
  • A mini paper cutter or scissors
  • A hot glue gun and compatible glue sticks
  • Double-sided foam adhesive tape
  • Faith-inspired stickers and decorative accents

I’ve put my prayer-box crafting tools into one convenient Amazon collection so you can browse the materials and find options that work for your project.

A Cricut is completely optional. Premade letters, printed stickers, and scissors work just fine if you’re crafting without a cutting machine.

How to Make Your Own PRAY Box

Step 1: Choose Your Box

Start with a small box that has enough room for folded prayer slips. Choose a plain box you can decorate or repurpose one you already have.

Step 2: Add Your PRAY Letters

Make the word PRAY the focal point. I used oversized orange letters against a turquoise background for a bold, colorful look.

Before attaching your letters, arrange them on the lid to check the spacing. Then secure them with an appropriate adhesive.

Step 3: Decorate With Faith-Inspired Stickers

Add a few messages that remind you of the purpose behind your box. My design includes phrases like “Release & Receive” and “God Hears You,” along with other faith-inspired graphics.

You can print your own designs on sticker paper, use premade stickers, or create custom cutouts if you have a Cricut.

Step 4: Make Your Prayer Slips

Cut cardstock into small pieces or use blank index cards. Choose colors you love and keep a pen nearby so you can write a note whenever something comes to mind.

Step 5: Fill Your Box

Fold your notes and place them inside. Your box is ready! Keep it somewhere you’ll see it, whether that’s your desk, bedside table, prayer corner, or family room.

What Should You Put in a Prayer Box?

Not sure what to write? Start with these ideas:

  • Prayers for your children and family
  • Worries you want to surrender to God
  • Difficult situations and decisions
  • Prayers for patience, peace, and wisdom
  • Gratitude for answered prayers and everyday blessings
  • Hopes, goals, and things you’re trusting God for
  • Scripture verses that encourage you
  • Prayers for friends and people in need

You can also write a prayer when you don’t have the words figured out yet. Sometimes a few honest sentences are enough to get started.

Make It Your Own

Your prayer box doesn’t have to look like mine. Use your favorite colors, keep it simple, add bows and glitter, or create a version your children can decorate with you.

You could even make separate sections for prayer requests, gratitude, and worries you’re ready to surrender.

The goal isn’t to create something perfect. It’s to make a little space for faith in your everyday life.

A Little Reminder for the Days When Life Feels Heavy

Some seasons are harder than others. Between motherhood, responsibilities, grief, and everyday worries, it’s easy to feel like you’re carrying everything at once.

A prayer box won’t make every problem disappear, but it can give you a tangible way to pause, reflect, and bring what’s on your heart to God.

You don’t have to have the perfect words. You don’t have to pray on a perfect schedule. Just start where you are.

Write it. Pray over it. Release it. Trust God with the rest.

Happy crafting!
